Nutrition

Good health starts with good nutrition!  It’s not a question of what foods you should avoid, but rather to focus on a diet that is balanced and high in vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and low-fat dairy products can help you achieve your goals for a healthy eating plan for the entire family.  Eating for health and eating for pleasure are not incompatible!  Remember, choosing foods that are nutrient-rich can provide satiety, increase your general energy, enhance immune system function, and decrease your risk for most degenerative and chronic diseases.  Be an informed consumer when it comes to making decisions on food choices for yourself and your family!

Nutrition counseling services are offered by our Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Educator at our HealthTracks facility.  Services include general nutrition, weight management, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes self-management education training, pre-diabetes counseling, heart healthy nutrition, eating disorder counseling, childhood nutrition issues, special diets education.  Diabetes education is covered by Medicare and most insurance carriers.  Other topics may or may not be reimbursed by your insurance carrier.  A physician referral is required for both Medicare and other insurance carrier reimbursement for services.  For information, please call Yvonne Smith, MHS, RD, CDE at 828.526.1469.
