General Surgery
General Surgery encompasses treatment of disease from head to toe.
Included are treatment of skin disorders such as removal of cancers
and other growths, and treatment of abscesses and infections; in the
neck, treatment of thyroid growths and biopsy of lymph nodes; in the
abdomen, removal of diseased gallbladders, treatment of appendicitis,
removal of stomach and bowel cancers, surgical treatment of
diverticulitis, repair of hernias and of course, breast biopsy and
surgical treatment of breast cancer. There are many more conditions,
too lengthy to list, which are treated by the General Surgeon.
General Surgeons are the mainstay of all trauma programs in the United
States. It is the General Surgeon who is “captain of the ship” in
cases where a patient has multiple injuries.
