Physicians
Assistant Richard L. Wayne joined Mountain Area Family Medicine in
Cashiers in June 2001, working in conjunction with Dr. David Wheeler.
Wayne
graduated from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine's Physician
Assistant Program at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, in
1997 and was employed as a physician assistant at Gonzalez Community
Health Center prior to moving to the Cashiers area. He attended
Arapahoe Community College in Colorado, earning an associates degree
in 1990 in applied sciences and majoring in nursing. He was a
registered nursed at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, CO, for almost
two years before entering the mission field in Amazon region of
Brazil.
In 1994
he was awarded a National Health Service Corps Scholarship and
enrolled at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC, where he
completed courses required to earn a bachelor of science degree. From
there he entered Bowman Gray.
He is
certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician
Assistants and is a member of the American Academy of Physicians
Assistants and the NC Academy of Physician Assistants. He is licensed
by the NC Medical Board as a physician assistant.
